Herding
Foundations of Herding lessonsInterested in learning about herding? We have a great opportunity for you!
We will be offering a class that is specifically for humans who have little or no livestock/herding experience (or anyone who wants to learn more!). In these lessons, you will learn how to "read" livestock, learn how to move them (which is eventually what the dog has to do!), learn the basics of herding on a trained dog (much like learning to ride a horse on one that is already broke to ride), and learn more about the various herding programs and levels of competition. We can offer this curriculum in a group or private lesson format. If you are interested in learning more about this class, e-mail us at ccdtatthefarm@gmail.com |
Herding lessonsOnce you have completed our Foundations lessons with our trained dogs (or show equivalent knowledge), you will continue on to regular lessons.
Our students meet with Kelli privately once per week, then get together once a month for a group clinic. The private lessons help us cater to what specific set up you and your dog need (stock, pen, obstacles, etc) and the group clinic allows us to all learn from each other! |
XP Ranch Herding ClinicsTwice a year, we bring in top clinician Kent Herbel of XP Ranch
Kent Herbel has been training dogs since 1979, started trialing dogs in 1989, and taught his first clinic in 1990. He and Lori now travel all over the United States teaching, competing and judging. His training methods have been proven to work on all breeds and all ages of dogs. He has a unique way of teaching that helps handlers learn to build a strong working relationship with their dog, with an emphasis on communicating clearly, quietly and fairly. His methods are focused on the actions and reactions of the livestock and teach the dogs to be responsible partners capable of being successful in practical ranch work, at home or on the trial field.
