Herding
Foundations of Herding classInterested in learning about herding? We have a great opportunity for you!
We will be offering a class that is specifically for humans who have little or no livestock/herding experience (or anyone who wants to learn more!). In this class, you will learn how to "read" livestock, learn how to move them (which is eventually what the dog has to do!), learn the basics of herding on a trained dog (much like learning to ride a horse on one that is already broke to ride), and learn more about the AKC herding program levels of competition. This class is a great opportunity for: -YOU to learn before you try to teach your dog this complex sport! (This class or equivalent knowledge IS a requirement for herding classes with us). -Anyone who has a dog they think they would like to do herding but aren't sure if the human will like the sport (most herding breeds have enough instinct to do it if the owner enjoys the sport enough to commit the time). -Anyone who wants to learn about this really amazing sport, EVEN IF YOU DONT HAVE A HERDING DOG! Cool, huh? Many people taking horse riding lessons without owning a horse. There is no reason you can't learn about this really amazing activity just because you don't have a herding dog. In this class we will not start your own dog on stock yet. It's an opportunity for YOU to learn before you teach your dog. This class meets for 6 weeks and cost is $310 for this 2 hour class. If you are interested in joining us, complete the registration form here: https://forms.gle/o6yPaNHSkjUBxART9 We can offer this curriculum in a group or private lesson format. Herding classesOnce you have completed our Foundations class with our trained dogs (or show equivalent knowledge), you can join class with your dog!
In this class, you will continue to learn on our trained dogs while I start your dogs on livestock, eventually taking over with your own dogs! This is a rotating 6 week class that meets for 2 hours per week and cost is $310 for each 6 weeks. |
XP Ranch Herding ClinicsTwice a year, we bring in top clinician Kent Herbel of XP Ranch
Kent Herbel has been training dogs since 1979, started trialing dogs in 1989, and taught his first clinic in 1990. He and Lori now travel all over the United States teaching, competing and judging. His training methods have been proven to work on all breeds and all ages of dogs. He has a unique way of teaching that helps handlers learn to build a strong working relationship with their dog, with an emphasis on communicating clearly, quietly and fairly.
